A MACRO VIEW OF MICROPLASTICS

Plastic is the most prevalent type of marine debris found in our oceans.
Plastics can come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, and over time, that plastic debris degrades into smaller and smaller pieces. The word, “microplastics,” refers to those small plastic pieces less than five millimeters long. As an emerging field of study, researchers around the world have flocked to this important work to study the impacts of microplastics on marine life, humans, and whole ecosystems.
The Atlantic Highlands Arts Council has partnered with local environmental groups to focus our next open call on this growing issue which impacts us greatly on the coast. We’re inviting artists from around New Jersey to submit work on the theme of Microplastics. The call is open to New Jersey artists, 18 years and older. We welcome submissions made from microplastics, plastics, or any other found or traditional media. All two-dimensional and three-dimensional media will be considered. Artists are free to explore this theme however they choose. We are looking for a broad range of artists' perspectives on Microplastics.

Entry Deadline: April 5, 2021 at midnight
Receiving: April 18 from 11am-3pm; April 20 from 3-6pm
Opening (virtual): Thursday, April 29 at 7pm on Zoom
Pickup Art: May 30 from 11am-3pm
